Since the first event was held in 1999, the Gastronomy Forum has become a popular meeting place for gastronomy professionals and food sector companies. The Forum is held every year, alternating venues between Girona and Santiago de Compostela.
The 2012 event is due to be held in the Galician capital from 26 to 28 February and will gather together a total of 24 Michelin-starred chefs. Already confirmed are brothers Joan and Joseph Roca, chef and sommelier respectively - as well as owners - of El Celler de Can Roca (Girona), with three Michelin stars between them. In 2011, El Celler de Can Roca was ranked second in the prestigious S.Pellegrino "World's 50 Best Restaurants" list.
The organizers have also confirmed that other leading chefs will be attending, such as Jean-François Piege, owner of the Parisian restaurant named after him, Paco Pérez, from Miramar (Llancá) and Xavier Pellicer, who replaced the late Santi Santamaría in the renowned Can Fabes in Sant Celoni (Barcelona).
Chefs representing the Galicia region include Marcelo Tejedor (Casa Marcelo restaurant in Santiago), Pepe Solla (Solla restaurante in San Salvador de Poio, Pontevedra), Alberto González (Silabario restaurant in Tuy, Pontevedra) and Javier Olleros (Culler de Pau restaurant in O Grove, Pontevedra).
Of the three days the Forum is running, the first day will be open to enthusiasts and the general public, while the two remaining days are reserved for sector professionals, with cookery demonstrations, food and wine tastings, wine pairing, talks and discussions.
