Production & Trade Regulations

Food Import & Export

The rules for import and export are monitored by the European Union, which has set up a generic regulatory corpus for all aspects related to foreign trade of food products. These specific rules deal with inspection and labelling, through agreements with third countries for mutual recognition of these aspects. The EU has also created a series of special regulations for some foods because of their particular characteristics.

General Rules

Trade policy is the responsibility of the European Union, which is in charge of setting rules on the import and export of goods such as food. These rules are based on a system of licenses and restitutions for exports, together with import quotas for certain products. The rules establish a bureaucratic procedure for the trading of goods and for guaranteeing their quality and safety.
