Production & Trade Regulations

Food Import & Export

The rules for import and export are monitored by the European Union, which has set up a generic regulatory corpus for all aspects related to foreign trade of food products. These specific rules deal with inspection and labelling, through agreements with third countries for mutual recognition of these aspects. The EU has also created a series of special regulations for some foods because of their particular characteristics.

Inspection & Technical Assistance

The European Union has drawn up a series of regulations for the inspection of food products, in order to guarantee correct Labelling and compliance with food quality and safety standards. There is a special section for fruit and vegetables. The European Union also complies with schemes that set recognized international standards for food export, particularly the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD) system. Similarly, the European Union has signed international agreements with several developed countries for mutual recognition of systems for the inspection and labelling of export goods.
