Production & Trade Regulations

Livestock & Fresh Meat

To guarantee the quality of fresh meat, both the European Union and Spain have drawn up wide-ranging legislation addressing all kinds of issues to ensure that animals are in a good condition before entering the food chain. This is why regulations are in place for issues relating to diseases and diet, both of which have raised concerns among consumers following several cases. Regulations also protect animals, to ensure that any suffering is prevented during their lifespan and at the time of slaughter. Labelling standards have also been established to trace the route taken by the animal at all times throughout the process, together with hygiene protocols for meat handling.

Animal Protection

Although the animals are destined for slaughter and human consumption, the European Union and Spain have drawn up a number of standards to safeguard animal welfare during the rearing period in stables and farms, and during transport of livestock. Approved slaughter techniques have also been laid down to prevent animals from suffering.
