Traditional Spanish tapas and raciones, vermouth on-tap and wine.
Entering this tiny corner establishment in the classic Madrid barrio of Chamberí is like taking a step back in time to the year 1911 when it was founded. From the black and white tiled floor to the ceiling fan, chandelier, wooden bar and chalkboard menus, this lovely tapas bar and restaurant brings the elegance of the past century into the present with a varied menu of tapas and raciones, vermouth and selection of beer and wines.
Intended for sharing, the dishes include a selection of cheeses and sausages (chorizo, jamón Ibérico, salchichón, etc.), salads made with ingredients like pimientos asados (roasted red peppers), ventresca de atún (tuna loin) and foie de pato (duck foie gras); as well as other favorites like croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes), bacalao rebozado (breaded salt cod), chopitos (fried baby squid), boquerones en vinagre (fresh anchovies in vinegar), gourmet canned shellfish and much more.
This two-story establishment has a lively upstairs bar area and a small and more formal downstairs dining room. Located under centuries-old brick arches, this cool and peaceful chamber adjoins the well-stocked and pleasantly displayed wine cellar.
