Opened in late 2010, this gourmet temple in Madrid is the perfect destination for gastronomes who are looking for top quality Spanish food and beverages. Part delicatessen – part wine cellar, this large, modern space is characterized by the shining stainless steel-backed deli case that runs along one side of the store. Hanging jamones and other cured meats, and a huge variety of patés, foie gras, cheeses, smoked fish, and deli items are brightly displayed and prepared by smartly dressed and knowledgeable clerks.
On the opposite wall, row after row of gourmet fruit and vegetable preserves, turrones, legumes and a wide variety of olive oils are cheerfully stacked on bright, light-colored wood shelves, while refrigerated cases offer yogurts and other perishable items and frozen ready-to-eat Spanish fare like ham croquetas.
At the back of the store, a curved glass wine cellar flaunts wines from some of Spain’s most venerated wineries and representing a wide variety of Designations of Origin. The wine is tended by sommeliers Rubén Mora and Rebeca Talavera, who have worked with such prestigious Spanish chefs as Paco Roncero and Ferrán Adrià, and their commitment to excellent service and gourmet food carries over into every aspect of this new establishment.
