Since ancient times, the strategic location of Ceuta has led to its being settled by different civilisations –Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans and Visigoths. The city was then occupied by Arabs and Portugueses for commercial and military purposes and, finally, came under the Spanish throne as a result of self-determination. This blend of cultures is clear in the city.
